Minas Gerais Wildlife - Natural Protected Areas

You can experience the fantastic Canastra National Park fauna, Caraça’s atmosphere and the fantastic rainforest’s richness in Caratinga Biological Station. This tour is recommended for nature lovers and especially interested in primates and general wildlife.

We will stay and eat in the best available places and accommodation, always inside or at least very close to the best birding spots. Our transportation is always in air conditioned vehicles with lots of space for luggage and equipment.

Day 1 – Belo Horizonte / Canastra National Park
- Arrive at the International Airport and transfer to São Roque de Minas (360 km) where Canastra National Park is.
- Check in at Pousada Chapadão da Canastra.
- Overnight.

Days 2 & 3 – Canastra National Park
- All days exploring and birding in Canastra National Park area. We have great chances to see the Pampa’s Deer, Giant Anteater and the Manned Wolf. Trail lunches during the day and dinner at local restaurants.
- Overnight São Roque de Minas.

Day 4 – São Roque de Minas / Caraça Natural Reserve
- After breakfast transfer to Caraça Natural Reserve (500km).
- Lunch on the road and dinner at the hotel restaurant.
- Check In at Caraça Monastery.
- Dinner at Caraça’s restaurant.
- Overnight.

Day 5 – Caraça Natural Reserve
- First day to explore this fantastic reserve. After dinner, we go to the church’s patio to wait for the Manned Wolf. We wait for the big animal gently walks up the stairs of the sanctuary and feed himself. It’s an unforgettable experience.
- All meals at Caraça’s restaurant.
- Overnight.

Day 6 – Caraça Natural Reserve / Caratinga (Caratinga Biological Station)
- After breakfast, we will have more time to enjoy and observe the local flora and bird life in the unique ecosystems around the sanctuary. Before lunch, check-out and transfer to Caratinga arriving in the end of afternoon.
- Check-into Vind´s Hotel.
- Lunch on the road and dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Overnight. Day 7 - Caratinga Biological Station
- The researchers of the Biological Station know where the animals are more concentrate what increases our chances of seeing the primates. Here in this Conservation Program, we can observe, and get more information about habits and the interesting facts about the species of flora and fauna.
- Return to Caratinga in the end of each afternoon.
- Trail lunch at the Biological Station and dinner at the hotel restaurant.
- Overnight in Caratinga.

Day 8 - Caratinga – Belo Horizonte
- In the morning, we check-out and depart to Belo Horizonte. Transfer to the airport or to the final destination. We will have lunch on the road to Belo Horizonte.
